I don't share the same intensity, but I grew up in Taiwan in the 90s when we were about to have our first democratically elected president. I remember watching simulations of China shooting missiles over to destroy our cities on the news every day. Also, 3/4 of my grandparents were separated from their families due to civil war and cultural revolution.
I consider myself lucky to have grown up in Taiwan, but these experiences made me different from the imaginary average American (the country I now live in). Thanks for sharing your story! 🙏
